Folklore Jersey

Folklore 2012.

For two days in the heart of St Helier the first Folklore concert delighted 2,000 people.

Something for everyone.

Under the striped canvas of a huge tent some of the greatest music makers from the last fifty years graced the stage and created an intimate atmosphere that will last in peoples minds long after the circus left town.

From garrulous John Cooper Clarke, in his element, in a packed tent, to Wanda Jackson who really caught the crowd off guard.

Van the man, really delivered a pitch perfect set. With the high density of an Irish population on the island he was warmly received.

Everyone from the lesser known local artists, like Frankie Rose Davies and Badlabecques to established songsmiths Joan Armatrading and Ray Davies, really delivered great sets.

For me the outstanding gig was the recently rediscovered Rodriguez whose award winning, oscar nominated, documentary "Searching for Sugarman" is being shown by "Branchage" in November. An enigmatic man with a beautiful delivery put a smile on everyones face.

Both Warrens and their team delivered a first-class weekend of top class acts.

For those who couldn't make it you missed a treat. But there is always next year.

I overheard someone say they paid for flights, a hotel and spent a couple of days in Dublin just to see Van Morrison and here we had him "up close and personal" in their own back yard. Not only that but this time they could take the kids. Brilliant.

Below are a few of the images I snapped in and around. Hope you like them.
